Personality Diversity in the Workplace – How to Make the Most of Them?

Every individual is different, and every workplace has a diverse set of employees with different qualities, talents, strengths and weaknesses. Most of the organizations fail to succeed because they can’t understand the value of the personality diversity at their workplace, and don’t know how to make the most of each type of personality. 

Today, in this article, we’ll discuss the most common and possible types of personality (The Big 5) that one can easily spot at a workplace, and how to use them up to their full potential. 

Now, before understanding the employee’s personality diversity & its benefits for a business, it’s critical to know what we refer to as personality. 

Personality is defined as the combination of the bodily, mental, emotional, psychological as well as  social characteristics of a person. 

Every company deals with a wide range of individuals with separate personalities and varied viewpoints. If managed right, the personality diversity at your workplace can become your business’ biggest strength. Let’s get started!

Personality Type 1: The Open Type

This type is open for experiments and to undergo different experiences. Don’t confuse it with an individual’s tendency to be bold and open in their thoughts or speech. This type of personality at a workplace is also sometimes referred to as “the Intellects.” Such people are more intellect and open to new ideas & innovation. 

Those with low in Openness tend to be more practical and traditional in their work approach. In a nutshell, the Open types are the risk takers, open minded for new ideas and breaking the expected. So, give this type of employee more challenging tasks that require out of the box thinking and new technology to work with. 

Personality Type 2: The Conscientious

The word “Conscientiousness” refers to an individual’s level of orientation and dedication for the goals. These people are well-organized and persistent in their work ethics and approach. 

The Conscientious are not impulsive, good executors, and can stay focused on one goal/task/project for a longer time. Give these people a task that needs longer working hours, hardwork and dedication, they surely won’t disappoint you. 

Personality Type 3: Extraversion Expert

Extraversion, also known as the Extrovert individuals are more inclined towards seeking the outer world’s stimulation; they love seeking attention from others. 

For the extraversion experts it is a cake walk to earn friendship, power and admiration. A business should hire them to meet people, or manage the teams, in order to make the most out of this personality type. 

Personality Type 4: The Agreeable Type

These are the life-savers and the reliable shoulders at a workplace. The Agreeable employee types are generally compassionate, empathizing and sacrificing. They get pleasure out of serving and taking care of others. 

In other words, an agreeable type is an individual who prioritizes the needs of others over his/her own needs. You can make them the managers, or leaders to help train people, or guide the new joinees as they are helping, calm, understanding and responsible. You can also make them incharge of team work to ensure the quality and speed of the project.

Personality Type 5: The Neurotics 

The last of The Big 5 that every company owns every now and then are the Neurotic types. 

Neuroticism describes an individual’s tendency to respond with negative emotions, such as fear, sadness, anxiety, anger, shame, or guilt.
